High school graduations are underway as the 2025-2026 school year draws to a close! It's a time filled with excitement as seniors bid farewell to their high school years and welcome the future.

It's also an important time for school board members as high school graduation is seen as one of the key indicators of student success. It's more than a celebration - it's evidence of years of planning, policy-making, and community investment. The connection between the board room and the graduation stage is strong: decisions made during meetings help determine how many students cross the stage, how prepared they are for life after high school, and how the community grows in the future. It's all part of the work of school boards.

And, that work is paying off. According to the latest report from Education Scorecard, released from Harvard University, Stanford University, and Dartmouth College, Louisiana continues to lead the nation in academic improvement. The 2026 report shows Louisiana ranks first among states in reading growth and second among states in math. Louisiana is the only state where average student performance has surpassed 2019 levels in both reading and math.
