On the last day of the regular session, the Louisiana Legislature settled two major debates: A bill that would have banned companies from owning both pharmacy benefit managers and drug stores died, while lawmakers passed a measure requiring app stores to age verify users and obtain parental permission before minors download apps.
Lawmakers also resolved questions surrounding next year’s budget, giving $43.5 million to a program that helps families pay for their kids to go to private school, adding $1.2 billion in one-time spending on items such as improvements to roads and bridges and raising the rate the state pays sheriffs to house state inmates, among other decisions.
