“Schools Putting Prevention to Work” (SPPW) Grant Award - Tuesday, September 28, 2010
School Wellness Coordinator’s Corner

Twenty-seven Louisiana School Districts have been selected to receive the "Schools Putting Prevention to Work” (SPPW) Grant Award. Congratulations to the following Louisiana School Districts: Region I (Jefferson and St. Charles); Region II (City of Baker, City of Bogalusa, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, and Pointe Coupee); Region III (Lafourche, St. John, and Terrebonne); Region IV (Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, and St. Martin); Region V (Allen, Beauregard, and Cameron); Region VI (Rapides, and Vernon); Region VII (Bossier, Desoto, and Webster); and Region VIII (Caldwell, Madison, Ouachita, and Richland).


The selected Louisiana School Districts will be awarded $17,000 over the course of the project period (September 1, 2010 – December 30, 2011) to successfully implement and evaluate their districts’ School Health Advisory Councils (SHACs), and Comprehensive School Wellness Policies. A Comprehensive School Wellness Policy is one that is designed to prevent initiation of tobacco use, and reduction of obesity through nutrition promotion and increased physical activity in Louisiana’s youth (K-12).
